Fun times at Arataki

Oh no this is a disaster, we are lost! We are in a forest searching for were invertebrates live. Guess where I am? I am at Arataki with room 6, 7 and 8 and we are there to learn about the life cycle of a life and how invertebrates are nature's recyclers.  

The first thing we did there was we had to split into two groups and we had to wash our shoes with a special spray. This is because there was a disease in the forest called Kauri dieback. Washing our shoes helps to protect the trees. We went with a Ranger and we used the pooters to suck up bugs and investigate them..

The second thing we did there was we had to learn about how natures leaves make food for the tree. And what invertebrates do to the leaves once they die.. Frist the leave fulls down from the tree then the invertebrates choo, choo, poo, poo and comes out as soil. This soil keeps growing new leaves on the trees.

 

The third thing we did was that we had lunch. After lunch we for a hike around loop track around Arataki. We got lost then we managed to find our way back but it was tiring. The last thing we did was we had to write how many years the bush was there in the loop tack. Did you know that it used to be a potato farm!
